Thermal transfer printers

Due to the method of printing, we divide printers into the two basic groups: thermal transfer printers and thermal printers.

Thermal transfer printers work with the use of thermal transfer ribbons. In the majority of cases, a thermal transfer printer may be, in the case of necessity, used as a thermal printer, however,  the durability of thermal transfer printing is remarkable, therefore, it is commonly used in industry and logistics (marking of commodities and logistical labels).

Thermal printers work on special paper covered with a thermally-sensitive material. This method of obtaining an image is similar to the thermal transfer one, however, it requires the use of a paper of a special kind. That paper is covered with a thermally-sensitive material, which undergoes discolouration under the influence of heating up by the printing head. This print does not require using thermal transfer ribbons, and its most important asset is the low costs of operating, whilst low resistance to temperatures and external conditions are the drawbacks.
